Whalers, Jets, run records to 4-1
SAMRONG: The Klong Toey Whalers and the Din Daeng Jets ran their respective records to 4-1 Sunday night in the D' Pelican Fall Classic Hockey League. In the first game, the Whalers beat the Sukhumvit Stars 4-2 despite being outshot 16-12. The evening's second contest saw Din Daeng rout the expansion Ratchada Coyotes 6-3.
Despite missing league-leading scorer Pasit Jirachai, the Whalers extended their winning streak to four games, thanks to the strong goaltending of Simon Halverson, who only let in goals to Oscar Sala and Alex Phelps; Devin Keer led the way for the Whalers with two goals, while Jantapong "Moo" Tensakul (with the game winner) and Stephen Sproule fired singles past Stars netminder Pattarapol Angulpattanasuk.
In the second match, Tewin "Thor" Chartsuwan was on fire for the Jets, scoring a hat trick and making many spectacular end-to-end rushes. The Asian Games silver-medalist was the star of the night driving Ratchada keeper Lance Parker crazy with his repertoire or forward and backhand moves. Michael White, Alasdair Fawcett and John Schachnovsky scored the other goals for Din Daeng while Coyotes Geoff McIntyre, Top Rutthapong and Peter Borgesson, on a brilliant end-to-end effort, turned on the red light behind Jets goalie Jason Cotsmire.
