Jets claim first place in D'Pelican Fall ClassicÂ
The last weekend of regular season action played out Sunday in the D'Pelican Fall Classic Hockey League. Game one saw cellar dwellers Ratchada Coyotes and Sukhumvit Stars face off against each other. Ratchada's Krit Rattapong, started things off taking the puck in the neutral zone, skating through the defencemen and deking Stars goalie Lance Parker. Another goal by Krit, two by Geoff McInytre and one by Vladimir Prochazka saw the Coyotes roar out to a 5-2 lead after two periods with Dave Ducharme and Scott Whitcomb replying for Sukhumvit.
In the third period, despite continued pressure from the Stars' top line, Sukhumvit could only get one more goal by Jouni Heinonen past the Coyotes's keeper Pattarapol Angkulpattanasuk, and Ratchada held on to claim third place in the league with a 5-3 victory.
The second game was the marquee event of the night as long-time rivals Din Daeng Jets and Klong Toey Whalers squared off. Both had identical 4-1 records heading into the game and the winner would be the regular season champion. Din Daeng's John Schachnovsky staked Din Daeng to an early lead but Klong Toey roared back with three unanswered goals, two by scoring leader Pasit Jirachai and one by Joe Lamantia.
Din Daeng scored twice in the second period and Klong Toey once so the Whalers held a 4-3 lead heading into the final stanza. But the Jets owned the third period and eventually the game as Alasdair Fawcett and original Jet Michael White scored to take the lead back for Din Daeng, and John Schachnovsky added an empty netter to seal the victory.
