BNH topple Krung Thep for sole possession of first
THE RINK, CENTRAL RAMA IX:
The BNH Hospital Blades, backstopped by rookie goaltender, Dima Bendenko, eased into first place Sunday night as they crushed an unconvincing Cobras team weakened by player injuries. In the second game of the evening the D'Pelican Flyers were forced to battle hard for their first two points of the season as they overcame the JOG Sports Ice Jackets.
BNH Hospital took a commanding lead as they maintained their momentum for the previous week. Goals from Vladimir Prochazka and captain Charlie Argue gave the Blades a 5-0 lead heading into the second. Clinical passing and deadly finishing only made matters worse for the Cobras early in the second, until Thai national team player Pasit Jirachai found the back of the net. A second tally for the Cobras from Finnish play maker Ville Salo squared the period and restored some pride. In the third, Blades winger, Stephen Sproule, got in on the scoring action with line mate, Charlie Argue, to kill the game off at 10-4.
In the second meeting of the evening JOG Sports captain Alex Phelps got his team off the mark with a point shot rifled through traffic bulging the twine, only to see that lead erased moments later when veteran blue liner, Kevin Hall, capitalised on shaky goaltending at the other end to bring the d'Pelican Inn Flyers level. David Lombardi soon restored the lead for the Ice Jackets, finishing off some slick passing in front of the net from Scott Whitcomb. Flyers captain, John Schachnovsky, then came through in the clutch for his team with a couple of goals to lift his team. Thai sniper Tewin Chartsuwan added a brace for the Flyers before Alex Phelps threatened to ruin the party with his second of the night. However, it was not to be as Flyers captain earned his team the full two points with an empty net goal to seal the victory.
