Roadhouse captures TWHL championship
Tenacious winger Aaron Foster scored the series winner Saturday after setting up a screen and deftly deflecting a Robert Taylor point shot past the goaltender midway through the third period.
The Smokers were in tough early as the league-leading Slammers jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Pasit Jirachai scored and sniper Geoff McIntyre blazed a wrist shot into the top corner of the net, his first of two on the night.
But the Smokers refused to die scoring four unanswered goals by Taylor, Tawin Chartsuwan, Pierre-Marc Chouinard, and the indefatigable Foster. Taylor was dominant for the Smokers, finishing with a goal, two helpers, and strong defensive play.
Rearguard Jason Tuckett was a force in his own end, diving to knock the puck away from McIntyre on a partial breakaway, and stymieing other dangerous opportunities.
Goalie Lance Parker also produced a defensive gem, shutting down numerous good scoring chances, including a late-game penalty shot by McIntyre that would have tied the game. His best save, however, came on a bullet from in close as Parker shot out his glove hand to thwart a sure goal.
High-flying ice hockey action resumes in September as the TWHL's 7th season kicks off. www.jogsports.com
